What to watch this week – at home

Some highlights for this weekend and beyond:

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – 18:00 Saturday 22nd ITV1

My favourite of the Harry Potter Series. Directed by Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity) this is the start of the darker Harry Potter films and works as an excellent standalone movie. Great visuals, pacing and performances from the likes of Gary Oldman.

Martha Marcy May Marlene – 01:30 Tuesday 23rd Sept Film 4

Great performances from Elizabeth Olsen (Avengers Infinity War, Godzilla) and John Hawkes (Winters Bones). A chilling tail of a woman struggling to come to terms with her time with an abusive cult.

Con Air – 21:00 Sunday 23rd Sept Sony Movies

“Put the bunny back in the box”. That is all.

DVD/Blu Ray

Solo: A Star Wars Movie – 2018

A great Star Wars adventure, full of fun and a great performance from Alden Ehrenreich (Hail Caesar!) who nails the young Han Solo. Great supporting roles from Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson. Don’t believe the fan boys and critics who said this film wasn’t needed. It wasn’t but I’m glad it’s here. It is enormous fun with the feel of the original series and sets up a great sequel (which is looking unlikely due to a disappointing box office performance).

A Prayer Before Dawn – 2017

Prayer Before Dawn

Brutal true story of English boxer (Billy Moore) jailed in Thailand most brutal prison and his fight for freedom through Thai boxing. Brilliant performance by Joe Cole and a tough watch with an intense atmosphere and superbly realised fight scenes.
