What to watch at home this week/weekend

Se7en –  ITV4  Saturday 20th Oct – 23:15

seven

One of the greatest (if not the greatest) endings in movie history. If you have not seen this, it will shock you to your core! Fantastic thriller from David Fincher (Social Network, Gone Girl) and starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. In my top 10 of all time.

28 Days Later –  Horror channel  Saturday 20th Oct – 22:45

28 days later

Highly influential Zombie (they run fast) masterpiece from Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Sunshine). Starring Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins) and Naomie Harris (Skyfall, Moonlight), this is a great warm-up for Halloween. Features a stunning vision of an empty London.

The Goonies –  Five  Sunday 21st Oct – 16:55

Goonies-1985

A lighter note on the run into Halloween! A classic adventure (with horror elements) from my childhood and featuring a stellar list of “where are they now”. Starring Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings), Josh Brolin (Sicario, Corey Feldman (erm…) and……Ok so featuring early appearances for Sean and Josh. This was a favourite of mine and is like a mini Indiana Jones adventure. Having said that, its a very difficult film to advise on suitability for kids as it is quite scary for some children. Directed by Richard Donner (Superman, Lethal Weapon, The Omen)

DVD/Blu Ray of the week

Not much of interest this week, so I have gone for the iTunes release (21st Oct) of :

Sicario 2 : Soldado

sicario-2-soldado-quad-poster

Featuring solid turns from Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin. Like the first film, the action is intense and realistic but has nothing to rival the opening two set pieces of the original. Also, while the plot has greater scope, it lacks the focus and presence of Emily Blunt’s character.
