What to watch at home this week/weekend

Headhunters– BBC 2 – Saturday 10th Nov – 23:30

headhunters

Based on the Jo Nesbo Novel, this is the story of an executive headhunter who also steals high-end art in his spare time. However, he picks a painting owned by an owner he shouldn’t have messed with! Great acting from lead Aksel Hennie. Also features Nikolaj Coaster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister from Game of Thrones). Another twisting original movie from Norway and definitely worth checking out!

Mud – Channel 4 – Sunday 11th Nov – 00:15

Part of the Matthew McConaughey career relaunch. One of his best films here is directed by Mike Nichols (Take Shelter) and stars Sam Sheppard (Black Hawk Down), Reece Witherspoon (Wild) and Micheal Shannon (Take Shelter, Man of Steel). The story follows two young boys who find a fugitive and help him evade the vigilantes that are on his trail and to reunite him with his true love.

The Babadook – Film4 – Sunday 11th Nov – 01:50

Jennifer Kents terrifying movie of a mother trying to look after her son after the loss of her husband. A pop-up book arrives at their house entitled the Babadook. Once you let him in, you can’t get him out! Like The Exorcist, this works both as a horror movie and the story of a mother trying to protect her child when no one else believes what is happening to them.

BABA DOOK DOOK DOOK!!!

They Shall Not Grow Old – BBC2  – Sunday 11th Nov – 21:30

Peter Jackson’s brilliant restoration of WW1 footage transformed into colour using actors to recreate the soldier’s dialogue based on lip readers work. Moving documentary.

DVD/Blu Ray of the week

Rambo: First Blood Part I

IMDB: “Former Green Beret John Rambo is pursued into the mountains surrounding a small town by a tyrannical sheriff and his deputies, forcing him to survive using his combat skills.”

Classic 80’s action with Sly Stallone. Being re-released on DVD/Blu Ray and Itunes 4k. Great to revisit this iconic film and one of the first 18 certificate films I saw. Great acting and pacing. Much better than the sequels that followed.

“I don’t think you understand. I didn’t come to rescue Rambo from you. I came here to rescue you from him.”
