Series director Chad Stahelski returns with Keanu Reeves (The Matrix), Ian McShane (Hellboy), Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) with added Halle Berry (Die Another Day).
Set straight after John Wick 2, we see Reeves in another no holds barred gun and Kung fu fest. I’m not quite sure how much I like this series. I actually prefer watching it at home as the almost no stop action is a bit much in the cinema. The first film had the best story and involvement and I felt it actually became less interesting as it expanded the world of John Wick with all its complicated rules and organisations (all of which require you to suspend your sense of disbelief that the “muggles” never seem to really notice the carnage going on in plain sight).
I did enjoy the variation of set pieces on display here. Fighting using horses, dogs, bikes and my favourite battle in a weapons museum. Keanu Reeves continues to convince as a deadly assassin by doing the majority of stunts himself and Halle Berry was an equal in her scenes in the middle of the film. There are a few good laughs too.
Ultimately it comes down to how much patience you have for a film full of long (excellent but long) fights with some babble in between. It’s been left open for another and they will need to get their thinking hats on to make it remain exciting.
Should you go and see it: Yes if you just want a switch you brain off all action blockbuster with incredible fights. If you want something a bit more then look elsewhere.
