As Disney continues its live remakes, director Jon Favreau also continues his involvement following his take on The Jungle Book.
Featuring a voice cast including Donald Glover (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Beyoncé, Seth Rogan (Superbad), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) and James Earl Jones (Star Wars) this is a modern photo realistic take on the story in the same vein as The Jungle Book remake.
Much has been discussed about the animation and I had my worries. I have to say that, for me, it worked. It is an amazing achievement when you consider that nothing you see on screen is real.
The voice cast are all good and the movie is basically a faithful retelling of the cartoon version. Songs are well performed, it has scary moments and comedy.
I never really liked the Lion King as I didn’t like the songs and always thought it was too basic a story (not that much actually happens). However, I realise I am in a minority here!
Still this is a perfectly fine production with incredible technical elements. Kids will love it.
Rating – 8/10 – Extra point for the technical achievement of the animation. Delivers all you would expect from the Lion King.
